gosh i know i've gotta let people like things, but seeing people gush about their computer thing is just depressing at this point. tech feels like a thing we're all trapped in rather than something worth building a cute personality around.

@scanlime Yeah, I go through cycles of this too.
I think being trapped in tech is a pretty accurate description of how this industry takes advantage of us, and encourages that sort of identification through 'culture fit' barriers.

@scanlime part of me unironically likes my computer bullshit and the rest of me knows it's a damn drug lol
tech -
@scanlime do you think computing on your own terms isn't possible anymore?
tech -
@ogrumm what would be the point of it being a personal fortress
tech optimism
@scanlime it should be a shared fortress! you'd get to hang out with friends and other cool people and build stuff together
not saying it's quite possible yet, but the building blocks are there: projects like https://spritelyproject.org/ (one of many fringe computing ideas) give me hope it's possible. the biggest issue would be to capital-proof it, and that seems to be a political/social problem. I've talked with so many people disillusioned by the current state of big tech domination, if we work together we can find our way out of it.
tech optimism
@ogrumm I have been there but that road does not lead anywhere I want to be

@scanlime For me it's this two button meme of:
Using computers for radical purposes
Having to use a computer
